I was running as fast as I could possibly run! I ran and ran and ran, but it was no use.. he caught up to me! He tackled me to the ground and we wrestled in the mud for a while. Then I broke free! It was all a blur next... The tree branch... the ambulance... my dog licking my face... I had been playing chase with my dog, Miles, in our backyard when I had ran smack into a tree branch!... When I woke up, ever so slightly, I saw people all around wheeling me through what seemed to be a hospital.. I heard screaming and yelling and then... I saw it... all of the blood on me! All I could see was red! I fainted and the next time I woke up, I was in my dad's arms. I opened my eyes ever so slightly but I couldn't see at all out of my left eye! "What's going on Dad? Why can't I see out of my left eye? What happened?" I looked around and I saw the hospital room.. I looked back at my dad and he was moving his mouth.. but nothing was coming out! "Dad? Speak up! It's okay, just tell me!" He started to cry and handed me a very neatly, well-done paragraph on paper. I looked at it and it read...

'My dear. little Princess! You know I love you, but from here on out.. we're going to have an interesting life.... You see, when you hit that branch, a lot of things turned off in your head. Sweety, I'd love it if I could tell you this... I'm sorry! I wasn't watching you carefully.. this is my fault. Harmony, you are slightly blind in your left eye... I know that you can stay strong for me as I go on! You can no longer hear... you are deaf.. and I find it very painful having to tell you this bad news... you are paralyzed....' I didn't want to read the rest... I looked up at him and cried.. "What's going on? Dad? Is this a joke?" I tried to speak but it came out as mixed up words... I used to be an athletic, fun loving girl... now I'm deaf.. and blind? And I can't even play sports? I'm only 12!! I was mad, confused, and scared... What was going to happen to me?...

The next day I got to go home with my dad and Miles.. He carried me into my bedroom and put me on my bed. "If you need anything.. just ring this bell!... Oh I forgot!" He wrote it on a peice of paper... He then rang a bell. He walked out of the room and I rang the bell... he came back in and I wrote on paper, 'I'm scared!' He came over and hugged me... He said something else and I thought.. this might take a while for him to get used to this...

I was surprised to be waking up, I didn't even know I fell asleep! But when I did, Miles was licking my face, and I saw a note on my bedside table... 'Harmony, I didn't want to wake you, it was the first time you slept in two days and you needed the rest. I didn't leave you alone.. Rodny from next door should be in the living room.. Be kind. Love, Dad' Rodny? That little 14 year old twerp that always picks on me at school? Why would Dad leave me with him? Even if he is my neighbor... I rang the bell and he came back, "What's up nubs?" He wrote on a peice of paper. I guess he came prepared...

I wrote down, 'Why are you here?' He said something and then took my paper and pen. He wrote, 'Your dad's paying me.. What's it to ya?' That explained alot! Uggh.. I can't believe my dad left me with him... I asked for some juice and he actually got me some, and whenever I rang the bell he came and fluffed my pillow, got me food, or drinks and he didn't complain. I guess it wasn't soooo bad... on the other hand, he was himself...

I saw the phone in my room light up, so I knew someone was calling the house. All of a sudden Rodny ran back into my room and started screaming! 'What's going on?' I wrote.. He ran over and took the pen and paper, 'Ur Dad! He's been in a car crash!!' I was so confused! I fell out of bed and started crying.. He picked me up and carried me to his car and put me in the backseat. He drove as fast as he could and then grabbed me out of the car and ran into the hospital.. I tuned everything out.. Rodny set me down in a chair and went over to a doctor. I just closed my eyes and prayed... I opened them when Rodny sat down next to me.. looking disapointed. I wanted to ask him 'what's going on?' but I didn't have anything to write on... my father... what's going to happen to him?....

It's been nine weeks since my father died.. I got to say goodbye to him though. He was still alive when I got to see him.. he had the nurse write on a peice of paper that he loved me and that I was his world. I told him the same thing... And now I'm at my house, I am learning to walk with mechanical legs and I got a glass eye.. I am still deaf though. The doctor said that's perminant...

After a few years of Rodny taking care of me, a surprising thing happened. One day he was just fluffing my pillow, when he started gazing into my eyes. He looked so compassionate.. I forgot about all the times he had been mean to me. Suddenly he leaned down and kissed me... on the lips! After that amazing kiss he looked at me, blushing and smiling. I blushed and looked away, but he touched my chin, turned my head, looked me straight in the eyes, and said....

"I love you." I then realized that I went through a tragic life.. but it helped me find my true love...
