Then I saw him... he looked right at me, with his sensative eyes.. all I could think was, "Wow..." as he walked towards me, and... "Mary Anne! Get down here this instant!" I jumped up and out of bed, and realized it was all a dream.. "Dang-it!" I thought as I got dressed and ran down the stairs to see what Momma was mad about. "Ga' mornin, Momma! What's wrong?" I looked at her while she stood next to the counter ...with the egg bucket in her hands. "Awww, Momma! I hate getting the eggs from them chickens! Do I have to??" I knew the answer to that question even before I asked it. I grabbed the bucket out of her hands and went out to the barn. As soon as I opened the door, I new something was wrong... Usually the chickens are all over the place, scramblin' every-which-way. When I opened the door, though, I didn't hear a sound... I looked around and didn't see the chickens either! "Momma...? Where are the chickens?" I called out to the house. "Mary Anne, stop foolin' with me! Just get those eggs!" "But, Momma... The chickens aren't here!" I was a little spooked, but then again, This meant I didn't have to get the eggs...

Momma ran into the barn, stood right in front of me, and put her hands on her hips. I knew this meant, she wasn't playing. "Mary Anne! I am trying to bake food for the family! Now will you stop playing, and get those darn eggs from those chickens!?" I looked at her, about to protest and say they weren't there, when I heard a squawk.. I turned around and saw all the chickens! "Bu... bu... but.. Momma! They weren't there!" She looked at me annoyed and worried, huffed, and walked away. I turned around again, and guess who wasn't there.. the chickens! "What.. the..? Where did you go?" Suddenly I heard a noise in the corner. I squinted towards the darkness.. and heard it again. I soon recognised it... "Momma! Momma! ...Mo..!" I screamed as I ran towards the house, but soon falling with the beast on top of me...

Ever since I was little, there had been a wolf that always taunted us. It would eat our chickens, and everything else on our farm.. untill my cousin moved in with us. He hunted for the wolf and scared it half to death.. for a while it wouldn't come around. Then my cousin grew up and he moved into the city. The wolf just started coming back. I had learned to recognise his threatning call. First he would warn you, then he would start to creep out of his hiding spot, then attack. I layed there, scared that I wouldn't live, when I heard Momma! "Git! Go on! Git! Off my daughter you.." I was surprised that Momma actually swore! She was always so poised.. The wolf ran off, probably to get help, but I didn't care. I tried to get up, but I couldn't.. "Stay there, baby! Don't worry! You gonna be okay! Just stay there!" She ran off towards the house, probably going to call for help. I looked at my leg... and saw the bite. He got me!? I almost screamed, but soon felt a surge of pain run through my body...

I could hear Momma inside the house screaming at some person on the phone. I looked around for some water to clense my leg.. but instead I saw the wolf! He started to prowl around me, like I was some food for him.. which I almost was! I screamed, but he silenced me with a paw over my wound... I was terrified about what happened next. He touched the bite ever so slightly and I felt as if he stuck a knife in it! He then, lifted his paw up, and the cut was closed! "What in the...?" I whispered as he limped off into the woods...

I tried to hunch myself up on my elbows, and to my surprise.. I did! I stood up, slowly and cautiously, looked around and saw that the wolf was gone, but in his place was Momma! "I told you not to get up! ..Ugh.. Come on! We have to get you to the doctor!" I could tell she was annoyed. She dragged me over to the car.. but, I didn't feel pain anymore! All I felt was the urge to... run? I felt really weird.. so I followed Momma to the tractor and we drove over to Dr. Speilier's office. He did a few tests, to make sure I didn't have any diseases, and... I didn't! "So.. looks to me, you're good and healthy! ...Are you sure a wolf bit her? I don't even see a mark!" He asked my mother. She looked annoyed that he didn't believe her, "Of course he bit her! I saw him with my owns eyes!" She paused, then went on. "...Hugh... can you just keep her overnight, or something? Just to be safe...?" He looked at her in awe, but said he could. And the next thing I knew.. Momma was leaving me all alone, for the night, with the doctor.

I tried to sleep, but I just couldn't! I kept having the urge to go run and go around town... "What's happening to me?" I asked the doctor.. "What do you mean? I can't see anything wrong with you... Why? Do you feel alright?" And suddenly.. I really didn't... I fell asleep once but I kept having nightmares about the wolf...

I woke up at one point in the night and the doctor was gone. I got really scared cause I felt sick so I went out into the hallway to look for him. I was soon stopped in my tracks by... the wolf... "EEEEEKKK!!" I screamed in a really shrill voice. How was HE in the hospital??? I tried to run but he just ran in front of me and stopped me every time...! He looked at me sadly... I sorta felt bad for him... He looked almost like he was trying to say something... then... he did... "Come" He said only that and turned around and walked down the hallway... I don't know why.. but I followed him...

He started to go out of the hospital, so I stopped. I looked around and I didn't see any nurses or doctors. "It's ok.. just come." I couldn't stop my legs from moving! We walked outside and he turned around, "I understand you are frightened. Don't worry.. I have been watching you on your small farm. You are kind, gentle, intelligent... just what I need..." ...I didn't know WHAT was going on! "WHAT??" I kind of squeaked out. "Just follow me.." This time I didn't. He turned around and growled, "COME. DO NOT HASTEN." I squeaked, and followed him.. going deeper and deepeer into the woods...

We walked for what seemed like miles! Finally he stopped... "Do you know why you are here?" He talked in a very calm voice that tempted me to trust him and let my guard down.. "No." I replied firmly. "Well you see.. sit down.. this might take a while.." I sat as was told to and listened to an amazing story that I will never forget...

He took a deep breathe.. "Huh.. well you see.. where do I start? Oh right.. Well In my pack.. I am a special wolf. If I bite someone, I can talk to them. It's like this.. When I bit you, the blood in my vains traveled into you.. and gave you the hearing of a wolf.. I had been watching over you and your family and out of all.. you were the one I trusted the most. I saw your kind, gentle heart. That is what I need..." I got really confused.. "You want my heart?!?!?!?!?!?"

"Well sort of.." I couldn't believe it.. I was talking to a wolf.. that "Sort of" wanted my heart?? "You see in my pack... an evil source is taking over.. it is turning all my brethren into.. the beasts humans think we are.." I looked at him and almost cried.. I had just realized what a beautiful wolf he was! He glowed in the moon light... and then I noticed all the wounds in his fur... "So... how do I fit in here?" He looked at me.. I felt as if there was something he wasn't telling me...

"Welllll... May I explain on the way? For now.. you need the rest. Sleep child." Was he really comanding me to sleep? Like that was going to work! Hah! He looked at me compassionatly and waved his paw over my head. I felt really drowsy.. and next I knew.. I was in a field of roses with that man again.. and he walked over to me. This time though, he wasn't interupted by mother. He came over and kissed me on the forehead... and we both fell in the meadow of sunshine and roses...

I awoke to the smell of grass and the rich scent of the woods. I sprang up and remembered I was in the woods! "Soooo... Where to now?" He had just come back from colecting more wood.. "Home.. to my pack." He must've thought I was crazy! "Me!? Go to your wolf pack? The one that has the evil force hanging over it?!??" He looked at me and started walking.. I didn't want to be alone in the woods so, reluctantly, I followed.

"So can u explain to me, now, how I can help you in all of this?" I shouldn't have spoken a word.. what came out of his mouth I didn't want to hear... "Well, the legend says that the most trusted heart can break the spell.. so... I don't know the rest... Although, It's either you live or..." He trailed off.. I didn't want to hear the rest anyways... The next few days were peaceful. He said it would take a week to get to his pack.. and we were only gone for three days! What would Momma think? How could I explain to her that I had to help the wolf that attacked me.. so that's why I was gone???

On the fourth day I woke up and saw a man out in the woods.. behind some thick bush. To my surprise he looked like the man from my dreams! I pinched myself and when I didn't wake up I called out, "Hay! ...Remember me...?" He looked at me shocked. The next thing I knew.. he was gone. The wolf came back, "Did you just see that man?" I asked him. "What man?" He answered in his usuall calm voice... but... it sounded like he was hiding something behind it...

We walked more and more... hours went by.. then we had walked for 5 days... we didn't have much longer.. I had to ask him what exactly was going to happen. When I did, his response scared me... "Well when we get to the pack.. they will try to kill you... but then I will stop them.. don't worry!" I was already way over worried! I was going to die! He went on anyways... "Then I will talk to them.. tell them why I brought you, and then we will do the ceremony... You pretty much won't know what's going on... Ummm.. can I explain later?" I was tired of him putting this off! "No. Tell me now!" I said as demanding as I could.. and I wish I hadn't...

"The ceremony is so that you're soul can save our pack.. well.. this might not make alot of sense. Your soul will leave your body entirely.. and you won't know what's going on at all! Don't worry, it won't hurt! Your soul and the evil spirit will comunicate in someway.. battle.. or speaking.. I'm sure on that. This is just legend remember! ...And then the prince wolf will be sacrificed... but don't worry about that part. The spirit will be mad and want a soul to take home.. which will be the prince of our tribe.. of wolf..." I looked at him in shock.. a prince wolf? Soul sacrificed? Me.. not knowing what is happening? I was so confused! "Who's.. who's the prince?" He was silent but then responded.. "No one that you care about..." The following nights I dreampt about the man more often... but these were more sad. It was almost as if the dreams were trying to tell me something. Like instead of the man kissing me.. he would vanish.. dissapear from my world...

That night I had a really scary dream. The man walked over and changed into a wolf! I screamed but suddenly he vanished! I saw a dark cloud up ahead so I went towards it and there was an evil spirit.. holding the man's soul!!! I screamed and when I woke up I heard something off behind some trees. I listened closely and recognised the voice as the wolf that bit me.. "Please.. don't hurt her.. she will save the tribe and then you will sacrifiice me to the evil spirit... Please.. don't hurt her..." I jumped up and ran toward the voices.. I tripped and landed smack in the middle of a pack of wolves..! "What are you doing here? I thought you were asleep! Go back to camp.. Now!" I looked around at the angry faces on every wolf... I wanted to leave in fear.. but something came over me...

"No! I won't leave you to die! I.. love you.." I looked that wolf straight in the eyes.. "You let the human create feelings for you? How dare you! You are a disgrace!" One wolf growled at mine... He looked at me and smiled... "Go... Please.. I'll be alright..." I knew he wouldn't but that time I really was to scared and I ran back to camp..

I heard rustling and I looked behind me to see my wolf again.. "You're okay..! Wait.. what's going to happen now? I won't just sit back and watch you die!" He looked at me and said calmly, "It's time.." Suddenly all the wolves surrounded me and one barked.. I don't remember the rest.. it was all a blur. But I do know that when I recollected myself, I could see a black cloud! I didn't have enough courage to chase after it.. I was too scared about what I would find... The wolves howled with excitement and ran away.. leaving me to sit in my tears...

I heard a rumble and looked up.. the cloud was roaring through the sky. I sat there and cried for the longest time.. I then had a strange ping of life rise up in me! I ran and ran and chased after that cloud untill I was right in front of it... and I saw my wolf. His soul looked my direction and he smiled... but then frowned. Suddenly I felt a large breathe go out of me and I didn't know what was happening..! All of a sudden, I landed on the ground.. face to face with that man again..!

"What just happened???" I exclaimed, not knowing if he would know... "Your soul just fought with the demon spirit! And You won! ...You saved me!" This guy must be a loon.. "Uhhh.. no. I saved my wolf.. ....Who... who are you anways?" I would finally get an answer to this mess! But it wasn't what I was expecting at all...!

He smiled and said calmly, "You see.. a wolf has two forms.. human and wolf. This is how I knew you were the perfect one to save us.. because of the dreams you had about me in human form! Only a pure spirit with a wise mind is gifted with those dreams. After your spirit fought with the dark cloud, it freed me.. but my wolf form stayed. For the cloud was too powerfull, I couldn't get out with everything... So... this is me. Do you still.. love me?" This was a lot for me to take in! I was so confused! And surprised! And just flat out Astonished! But without any thought to it, I suddenly yelled out, "Yes! I do...!"

He looked at me and smiled from ear to ear. For the first time in my life I was happy...! He grabbed my hand and we ran through a field of flowers and sunshine. Then he looked at me and smiled, then walked over and kissed me on the forehead... my dreams, from then on, came true! My old, rotten farm life was turned into an adventure at every corner! I lived the rest of my life with my amazing, handsome husband.. and the rest.. well all I can say is that it was.. New and Improved...
